Oasis Travel is a boutique travel booking company with a small team of highly experienced travellers. With over 30 years in the industry, they specialise in boutique custom tours, leveraging their expertise to curate unique and extraordinary travel experiences for their clients. Their commitment to unique and personalised travel sets them apart in the competitive travel industry.
What was the situation?
Oasis Travel initially engaged our services for a Drupal website well over a decade ago. The Drupal site served them well for many years, but with the need for a modernised update and a decision to finally transition to WordPress, they reached out to us again. Their decision to switch was fuelled by the outdated nature of their Drupal site and the potential risk of collapse – as we always say, keeping your website updated and relevant is crucial to a successful website and business!
[Our website] was on the Drupal platform and had become pretty much obsolete and was by today’s standards very slow to load.
The existing Drupal site, while functional to a point, as time went on started to face limitations, especially concerning mobile responsiveness. It was extremely slow and was not living up to the premium products and services they offered. Their offerings as a boutique travel agency had grown and their site no longer had the functional capacity to fully showcase their diverse range of tours and destinations.
Oasis Travel envisioned a transition over to WordPress with a website that not only retained the functionalities of their previous site but also incorporated modern features to enhance user experience. The primary goal was to simplify the customer journey, improve site aesthetics, and reflect the high-quality products and services offered by Oasis Travel.
What did we do?
We migrated from Drupal to WordPress, undertaking a comprehensive redesign to bring the site up to date and in line with modern design standards. We restructured the site to simplify the customer journey, introducing parent pages that guide users through selecting continents, regions, and countries. This streamlined approach allows users to explore sub-regions, activities, set itineraries, prices, and other relevant information.

Because of the extensive content structure of the current site, we spent a considerable amount of time with the team redesigning page hierarchies and navigations to ensure the website was as user-friendly as possible.
The functionality of cities and itineraries was completely redeveloped and integrating custom post types, layouts, and dynamic elements has provided flexibility and autonomy for Oasis to edit content and independently manage their site. We developed numerous custom fields for a wide range of content inputs, to allow Oasis to keep scaling as their offerings and business grows.

With mobile responsiveness at the forefront of the redesign process, we improved the overall look and feel of the site, utilising modern visuals and photography to make it more appealing and user-friendly.
To maintain SEO integrity and minimise 301 redirects, we preserved old URLs, ensuring a seamless transition with inbuilt, native redirects which also helped minimise disruptions and breakages once the new site went live.

As always these things take twice as long as planned – but Darryl and the team gave good initial advice in the planning stages and I was kept up to date with the different design stages. We were also able to adapt some elements as we moved forward which was great. Overall very happy with the final product.
