About the client

Kids at Home started as a small Family Day Care Service based in Brisbane. After becoming passionate about the people, families and businesses within the Family Day Care sector, they soon branched out into developing innovative software products that allow businesses (other Family Day Care Services and Educators) within the sector to streamline their processes and enhance efficiencies.

Their products include FDSee, an online platform for Family Day Care Services, 12See, an Progressive Web Application for Educators, and FDSeeCCS, a child-care subsidy Progressive Web Application for both Services and Educators.

What was the situation?

Initially, Kids at Home approached us primarily for assistance with their FDSee product. They faced numerous challenges with their existing offshore development team and needed expert guidance to restructure their technology and development processes.

Their development team at the time struggled with performance issues, and there was a lack of robust systems and effective coordination. FDSee needed a comprehensive overhaul of the technology infrastructure and development processes to ensure better performance and reliability. The team felt because of these issues, their ability to scale and grow was incredibly hindered and their vision for creating a suite of Family Day Care products was out of reach.

Alongside the FDSee software improvements, they also wanted to build a customer-facing website for their original venture, the Family Day Care Service; Kids at Home.

The initial primary goals with our engagement were to achieve a more robust and reliable technological infrastructure, streamline development processes, improve server performance, and ultimately create high-functioning, public-facing websites and applications for Kids at Home and its associated products.

What did we do?

Our first order of business was restructuring their technology and development approach for the FDSee product. After providing extensive advice, we introduced new developers and implemented new internal processes and ways of working to improve the overall development process. These foundations were crucial to the longevity of the FDSee business model and their future plans for innovation.

We worked with the team to bring in a new Systems Administrator to improve the performance and stability of all their servers. This then allowed us to implement more robust technology systems which was extremely important to ensure the reliability and efficiency of all their products. These new stronger systems helped establish a level of performance that users could trust and rely on when using the FDSee suite of products.

Alongside technology restructure, we worked with the team at Kids at Home to develop a new public-facing website that accurately represented the brand; professional and modern, but also warm, trusting and inviting for both educators and families.

The latest project we have undertaken with Kids at Home, is the development of their Progressive Web Application for their Educators, 12See. This web application is the first of its kind, providing a fully integrated tool for educators to streamline their processes and improve compliance.

The team at FDSee are committed to helping their clients, Services and Educators within the Family Day Care sector, through innovation and frequent updates and new features across their suite of products. We have been with them every step of the way and it’s been a rewarding journey being able to help create new tools and features that have manifested from direct feedback from the FDSee client base.
